Dinner at Seven Glaciers

I headed up the mountain in the tram, travelling at 26 mph, to watch the sun set. Had a lovely dinner. Chiffon Caesar Salad with artisian breads and a selection of butters, oils and sauces for dipping. Beef tenderloin with bourbon, asparagus and fabulous risotto and fried parsnip curls. Wonderful mixture of aromas and flavours.
The chef is from Texas. He came around and chatted with the diners. I told him I travel a lot and am amazed at the number wonderful chefs I have been fortunate enough to experience in out of the way places. Why here? Why Alaska? Why Alyeska? "My story is the same as many people here. I came for a vist, fell in love, and have been here for 4 years now." He has also studied in Canada.
The clouds come and go changing the view and hiding the mountains from time to time. The sun dripped into the ocean. The clouds floated down one more time and snow was softly falling by the time I got to the bottom of the hill.

Day 2

Another beautiful day here. Sunny, 11F
Went for a long walk and then a hot tub in sea water. The hot tub has a panoramic view of the mountains, just beautiful!
All the roads here are snow packed. Highways are clear.
Leaving Alyeska at 10:00 p.m. to catch my flight home.

Alaska!

I finally arrived in Alaska Friday morning March 12 at 1:00 a.m. About a 12 hour flight from Fort Lauderdale. My butt hurts!
Barely made my connecting flight in Phoenix. They held the plane for "last minute cargo and luggage." Hmm, wonder who that could have belonged to? My luggage arrived in Anchorage. Hooray! I had to check my rollie as the plane was full. I didn't think to remove my camera, so the battery died in the 6 hour flight to Anchorage. So I had to use my Treo for pictures,
Lovely new airport. Heavy snow when we landed. 15F. My limo wasn't available due to the bad driving conditions so had to hop in a van with the USAIR crew from my flight. We dropped them off at their airport and then took the drive out to Alyeska.
Trees and mountains are beautiful with fresh new snow.
Took a 1/2 mile walk and met the Dog Sled Guy. Had an hour long tour of the bushes, saw is breeding facility. He has yearlings, dogs that have run in the famous race, longest dog sled race in the world, and new puppies!
I got to "mush" with the dogs. The dogs have been bred for speed. They are thinner than you night think and eat about 12,000 per day when racing. Eat your heart out Paul!
Darian is Italian, raised in Germany and has been in Alaska for 26 years. He came here for a vacation and never left.
Alyeska is at sea level. Took the tram up to the mountain top (3,000 ft). Will dine there for dinner tonight.
